Amoudi
A small resort on the outskirts of Alykanas, this area has a few tavernas and facilities but most guests in this resort hire a car to visit the surrounding areas there are villas and small self catering units in this area and again this area has wonderful countryside all around. The beaches here consist of small coves and crystal clear waters.
Laganas
A Resort for the young or the young at heart. Accommodation in the centre of Laganas is recommended only for the young, although many properties which are located on the outskirts of Laganas are in picturesque almost countryside areas away from all the noise and partying. Many visitors love Laganas for its noisy nightlife but want to be able to sleep and relax in comfort as well. The beach of this resort is long and sandy and of course is a nesting ground for the loggerhead turtles.
Tsivili
A very green area nestling amongst olive trees, fruit groves and boasting a long sandy beach where the blue sea stretches as far as Cape Yidakia which ends the curve of the bay and offering various water sports facilities. Tsilivi is popular with families and offers a full range of facilities including mini golf, bowling, laser park and of course a full range of restaurants, bars and shops
Agios Sostis
The quiet resort of
Agios Sostis , near Laganas, has been taken up by a number of UK tour operators recently. It is a pleasant enough resort with a narrow sand beach shelving gently into the shallow sea, good for children and for snorkeling. Decent tavernas overlook the beach and waiters will even bring drinks to your sunlounger. The beach is named after the islet in th bay which is easily visited and once had a small chapel. The resort is pretty uncommercialised so there are no clubs and discos but there are complaints from some families who find the 'kids have nothing to do'. The tour operators tend the sell the place (near Laganas) as more lively than it is. Laganas is about 30 mins walk away but the coastal track is for those who are fit enough to negotiate it.
Gerakas
On the other side of the peninsular at
Gerakas is one of Zante's finest beaches. Here is a long sublime crescent of golden sand with sandstone cliffs curving around the bay offering good shelter and shallow waters. The beach heaves with tourists during the day but, this is also being a major turtle breeding ground, it is empty and off limits from dusk to dawn. Its designation as a conservation area has spared it the ugly fate of neon hell-holes like Laganas. A wonderful place to enjoy off-season when the crowds disappear, though the tavernas and snack bars also shut down the moment the season ends. The white cliffs at the southern end are of clay which visitors like to use to paint their faces with natural sun block
Porto Zoro
one of the most spectacular beaches on the peninsular and also one of the hardest to find. The main road soon gives out and you have to abandon the car and trek on foot - though you may be able to get a vehicle down a rough track off the main road by following the splendidly marked signpost 'Beach with Rocks and Flowers' The beach is simply stunning. A small and perfectly formed crescent of deep sand with a couple of tavernas, a bar and a few rooms to let. A clutch of attractive rocks litter the headland to provide shelter. Recently 'discovered' it is a place you will have to share with many others as more sunbeds cram the shoreline.
Kalamaki
a quiet and sophisticated resort in the south east of the island, less than 5 km from the capital town. It is also near (3 km) to the most popular resort on the island, Lagana, combing the best of both worlds; a chance to enjoy the facilities and nightlife in Lagana or to spend a tranquil holiday in quieter locations. Kalamaki has maintained its Greek feel, with the relaxed and slow place of life still apparent despite its recent and increasing popularity with tourists. The beach at Kalamaki is part of Laganas bay and although not as big as Laganas beach it is still a nice sandy beach with gently shelving water. Parts of this beach are restricted for the turtles to use as a breading ground. The nightlife in this resort is fairly low key but there are several bars and classy restaurants to while away the night fine dining, drinking and a bit of dancing if the mood takes you. This is a lovely resort ideal for families
Porto Roma
a picturesque beach in the south east of the island, in an area called Vassilikos. The beach is unspoilt and the whole area remains untouched and undeveloped, ideal for visitors desiring a quiet day at the beach. The beach has golden sand and crystal clear waters and the sand gently selves into the sea, meaning it is safe for children. This beach despite being small still attracts many visitors, but always feels uncrowded and often visitors have the whole beach to themselves (especially before midday!) There is a bar and several tavernas near to the beach so refreshments are close to hand.
Alykanas
Located near to the neighbouring resort of Alykes and with less than 1 km between the two it is a pleasant and easy flat walk from one resort to the other. Alykanas is nestled amongst olive groves and surrounded by lush green scenery. It is a quiet resort, with a friendly, relaxing atmosphere that becomes livelier in the peak season. The beach is a continuation of Alykes beach and has the same soft sand and clear waters. This year the watersports have relocated from Alykes to Alykanas, so there are now a whole range of watersports to keep visitors to Alykanas occupied, such as pedaloes, bingos, paragliding, banana boat and much more! The resort has many shops, bars, restaurants and tavernas, sure to suit everyone and has in particular a good reputation for having several fine fish restaurants. On the outskirts of Alykanas, is the original village of Alykanas now called old Alykanas. This charming village is near the coast, has retained its traditional Greek feel and has a
handful of tavernas and accommodation ideal for those wishing to experience traditional Zante in a quiet and beautiful area.
Alykes
coastal area on the north east coast of the island known as Alykon Bay. Alykes is famous for its Salt lakes, not surprisingly that ‘Alykes’ translates to salt field. Growing in popularity it has a magical atmosphere about it encouraging people to return year after year. The hospitality is overwhelming as you begin to know everyone by his or her first name. Ideal places to relax, unwind and still have the choice of where to eat out or go for a drink. Alykes has one of the best beaches north of Zante Town with its long golden sand. The resort is small in comparison to the rest of the island and due to the prevailing winds it is a popular destination for windsurfers and watersports. It is within easy walking distance to the nearby resort of Alykanas with the two resorts practically merging into one.
Keri
On the southernmost tip of Zante island stands a whitewashed lighthouse surrounded by cliffs offering spectacular views of the nearby limestone sea arches. This is Keri, whose stunning views, breathtaking sunsets and aquamarine grottos in the caves below draw visitors from all over the island.
Argasi
Located south of the capital, the town has something for everyone. The resort is also something of a watersports hotspot, with a choice of ocean-going pursuits to suit the more active. Elsewhere in the town, you'll find plentiful tavernas, shops and bars huddled along the main street and a selection of international style restaurants, all in a very friendly, villagey atmosphere. And as the sun goes down, Argassi lights up with lively bars, and a few discos. Journey time from airport: 30 minutes approx.
30 km northwest of the island's capital it is situated the complex of the villages Volimes (Ano Volimes & Kato Volimes).
Volimes
one of the best starting points for those willing to explore the north side of the island with the numerous caves by the sea and the well-known shipwreck. The scenery at Volimes is picturesque and very interesting due to the traditional architecture of houses. The church of Agia Paraskevi, with its remarkable icons and frescoes is one of the most interesting sights. You should also visit the monastery of Agios Andreas, the monastery of Agios Georgios Ton Gremon, the Blue Caves (Galazia Spilea) at Skinari, to the north etc. From the top of mountain Vrahion reaches the wonderful view of
Kefalonia island. Finaly we have to refer to area Navagio (shipwreck) that you will find at Volimes, the most beautiful part of the island with its wonderful and well-known beach
